What Is the PMI-PMOCP™ Certification?
PMOCP is PMI's certification built specifically around Project Management Office competencies. It was created to fill a gap the PMP and PgMP don't cover: how do you actually set up, govern and continuously improve a PMO so it delivers strategic value instead of becoming a reporting overhead?
The certification covers four practice areas that map directly to what PMO practitioners are asked to do on the job:
- PMO Setup & Operating Model: designing the right PMO type (supportive, controlling, directive) for your organization's maturity level
- Governance & Standards: building the frameworks that keep project data, reporting, and decision-making consistent across a portfolio
- Prioritization & Portfolio Alignment: helping leadership choose the right projects, not just execute the ones already approved
- Value Realization & Reporting: proving the PMO's impact in language the C-suite actually cares about
We break down each of these domains in detail, including how they're weighted on the actual exam, in our PMI-PMOCP examination content outline guide.
For the shift itself rather than the credential, see our 6-step PMO transformation roadmap to strategic value.
